Each viewer watches and judges a movie in their own point of view and taste, influenced from their social attitude, experience and perception. For me Run Lola Run is the revelation of the significance of an instant and its contribution in our life. It’s directed by Tom Tykwer.
Each minute contributes different experiences, which can alter our whole life. In short, this movie is a philosophical, psychological and creative treatment of an instant and its innumerable possibilities.
Her lover would get murdered within a very short twenty minutes time span,if she fails to get money for him. And to get him the money is the main task of the protagonist character of this movie, Lola. And she is in a run to get him the money as soon as possible. The movie sets off as she starts her run.
“Whom should I approach to get money”, every little fraction of Lola’s thought is visualized in the movie by the director. Each scene shown by the camera is very detailed in manner even though it’s incredibly short. How much a single moment can influence a person’s life, the movie is the best example of this philosophy. And when that situation is demonstrated through still photography it has become more interesting and striking. With the help of all these special effects, more often we feel like the subtitles are unnecessary since each visual speaks for itself.
If an instant of a life change hither or thither, then the entire life can be some thing else. The movie portrays three possibilities of change in the main character’s life .It is up to the audience to accept any of the three. And the most interesting part is that these three stories are not even slightly separated from the entire context of the movie, that much ingeniously the editing and graphics has been done. To connect these three stories, a telephone receiver and money sack has been used by the director. Hats off to that unique and creative treatment.
While Lola keeps running all the way to meet her boyfriend Manik to prevent him from death saying herself “wait honey don’t do it, I will reach soon”, the audience also wish to run with her , little faster than her speed. This establishes how influential those frames are. And back ground score is one of the most inductive element which energize us to keep running with Lola.
The number of characters being short in the movie, the make up and costume part gains much importance. The entire movie is centered on a particular character’s particular action (running), and it’s because of that the director decided to keep Lola different in her appearance. Lola’s red hair might be the result of this thought.
More than all these observations this movie is the perfect example of a girl’s decisiveness to face any kind of repercussion only to keep her love alive. Rather than highlighting a male character always protecting his female counterpart from all unfavorable situation, the movie portrays a very brave girl, ready to help her love at any cost.
